AUGUST 2025
Greetings, I hope this finds you well and happy.
It’s been another busy month, starting with a few days with Ronnie in Norfolk.
This photo had been taken a number of years ago - the coastline has now lost about 100 metres through erosion and this holiday village would now be under the sea.
In fact where Ronnie and I first met on the beach in 1969 is well under the sea!
Horsey wind pump for draining the marshes in the Norfolk Broads.
On the Friday night we went to see Julian Taylor in the local town hall - a fantastic Canadian singer, songwriter, etc. He and the female musicians were amazing.
On Wednesday August 13 I drove over to Pauline’s. She had a friend from London staying and we went to the grounds and ruins of Sheffield Manor Lodge which was owned by the Earl of Shrewsbury when he had to host Mary Queen of Scots on behalf of Elizabeth 1.

I was supposed to drive down to Whitchurch in Hampshire with Linda D on Saturday, August 16 but for some reason I had to go to Emergency the day before with what fortunately was not an eye infection but some inflammation that the Eye Clinic was rather concerned about and I had to see them the next Monday and the following Tuesday. So Ronnie came up for a few days a week later and we drove down to stay at Linda’s daughter’s house with her as the family had gone to Disneyworld for two weeks.
It’s a lovely area with thatched houses as well as this one painted in “Suffolk pink” even though it’s not in the county of Suffolk!
Their lovely home.
We visited the Silk Mill which was very interesting.
Ronnie and I attended her funeral on September 2. It was a lovely non-religious service in a very nice crematorium. The celebrant had a lovely voice and John managed to get through his memories very well. It was standing room only.
Obviously it’s very difficult losing friends who are close in age - my friend Annette 1.5 years ago, and now Katie. However, both of them had great lives and did lots with them.
Thanks for checking in. Take care and, more importantly, stay healthy.
