OCTOBER 2025

 Greetings, this time from near Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca in Spain where Ronnie and I are staying for 16 nights in total, although we now only have five left! He and his wife owned an apartment out here for 20 years and he still knows people and, of course, the best restaurants and bars, so it’s very familiar.


Back at home I bought this footstool the other week, which my friend Diane very kindly reupholstered for me to go with my ‘reading’ chair.

Ronnie and I visited the Grimsby Fishing Heritage museum one day which I’d been to before but not done the tour of the fishing trawler, which was also very interesting. https://fishingheritage.com/







We also went to the Town Hall Live concert on October 10 which featured Nathan Bell from Tennessee who was amazing and a fantastic guitarist.



On Saturday October 18 three of Annette’s friends from the London area came up for the weekend and I met them for dinner and breakfast along with Annette’s sister and niece.  Annette was my school friend who passed away almost two years ago and it’s lovely to get together occasionally in her memory.




Colin still has the cats but unfortunately my little Frankie, who has had recurring kidney problems and was 16 years old, died just after I came to Spain.  I had gone over to say goodbye before I left as I knew she wouldn’t have long.  Bless her, she’s now buried under the apple tree in Waddingham next to Angel, Princess, Sparky and Toby.

One day we took a bus tour down to Aguila (south of Cartegena) which included an hour long boat trip around the coast and a lovely three course meal in a restaurant up the hill overlooking the town.









One of our favourite walks between La Zenia and Cabo Roig, followed by lunch overlooking the sea.

 We flew Ryan Air from Stansted to Alicante Prawn and pineapple starter at dinner the first night! Our apartment in a neighbourhood between Torrevieja and La Mata and the view from the roof terrace  Torre La Mata (our closest beach) Lovely Japanese food - I so miss the Bento boxes and Dynamite and California rolls that don’t seem to exist very close to where I live! MY BEAUTIFUL NEW HOME

Welcome to my new blog and my new home!  I feel very fortunate to be able to own this mid-terrace cottage built in the late 1700s.  I’ve had to do nothing to it as it was newly carpeted and painted before I bought it.  I’m fortunate that friends are helping me with the garden, about which I know nothing! The view out the front.  However, much as I love church bells, I don’t appreciate them every 15 minutes all through the night too but I guess I’ll get used to them!   My garden which is fortunately not too big but it is a real sun trap and I’ve been able to sit out in the afternoons and evenings lately and enjoy listening to the birds! My lovely sitting room with small log burner.  Lots of Roy Henry Vickers art around the walls. My dining room which is accessed from the front door and leads into the sitting room and the kitchen. Well it’s been a busy month! A blackbird in my garden eating. Two pics from a local walk. I went over to Waddingham to catsit for a week while Colin was away.  I so miss the cats but they are happy where they are and, as I’ve discovered, quite fickle! Here’s Quentin after he escapes the en-suite window and walks along the living room roof down to the orchard next door!   Ronnie and I went to Doddington Hall (near Lincoln) one day when he was up here and we had a drink at the Dambusters Pub which is close to the Scampton RAF station where the Dambusters left from.  “ Regarding the history of the pub, the Dambusters Inn was created in 1999 by Mike Knight and his wife, Amanda. Before that date, there had never been a pub in the Lincolnshire village of Scampton.  With local support, and, it has to be said, some local resistance, the Knight family created a pub crammed with artefacts and memorabilia from WW2 and, logically, named it the Dambusters Inn.” On Friday June 13 ...
